Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is a gripping 2024 Australian post-apocalyptic action film directed and produced by George Miller. Serving as both a prequel and spin-off to the iconic Mad Max: Fury Road, this installment delves into the backstory of the fierce character Imperator Furiosa. Anya Taylor-Joy and Alyla Browne portray younger versions of Furiosa, while Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke add their talents to the cast.

Set 15 to 20 years before the events of Fury Road, the film unfolds in an Australian desert wasteland where warlords battle for scarce resources like water, food, weapons, and gasoline. Furiosa’s journey begins with her kidnapping by the forces of warlord Dementus (played by Hemsworth), leading to her quest for revenge against him for the loss of her mother. Despite initial plans to shoot Furiosa back-to-back with Fury Road, the film faced development challenges due to salary disputes with Warner Bros. Pictures. Notably, key crew members from Fury Road returned, including composer Tom Holkenborg, costume designer Jenny Beavan, editor Margaret Sixel, and screenwriter Nico Lathouris. Filming took place in Australia from June to October 2022.

Premiering at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga garnered positive reviews from critics. However, its box office performance fell short, grossing $168.5 million worldwide against a $168 million budget1.

The plot unfolds in a radioactive wasteland where the Green Place of Many Mothers remains one of the last havens with fresh water and agriculture. Furiosa’s journey begins when raiders capture her, intending to present her as a prize to their leader, Dementus. Her mother, Mary, pursues them, leading to a series of events that shape Furiosa’s fate. As Dementus seeks the Green Place, Furiosa faces trials, alliances, and a daring escape from Immortan Joe’s vault.
