In "The First Omen," an American novitiate named Margaret Daino arrives in Rome to work at the Vizzardeli Orphanage. There, she uncovers a sinister conspiracy to bring about the birth of the Antichrist. Father Brennan warns her about a mistreated orphan named Carlita, who seems to be at the center of the dark plot. As Margaret investigates, she discovers a hidden chamber filled with files labeled "Scianna." These files contain photos of dysmorphic babies with a birthmark resembling three sixes, and Carlita appears to be the only survivor. The church radicals behind the conspiracy intend for Carlita to be the Antichrist's mother. Margaret's journey leads her to confront the Devil's plan and the terrifying truth about her own involvement.
